Summer means more freight. And more freight means you [the carrier] have the pick of the litter, so what do you pick?
We wanted to give you some quick tips to keep in mind, so you get the most out of this busy season, focusing mostly on the spot market. You should look at freight going to areas with higher tender rejection rates to minimize backhaul, so you don’t travel back empty-handed. Southeast region is firing up right now because of produce season and the Midwest looks good, probably from the break in weather.
The market is soft, so as long as your wheels are turning, you’ll be making money. Keep your eyes on the board and plan a day ahead if you can. Don’t set your expectations too high to avoid an idle truck and “down days.” Again, as long as your wheels are turning, you’ll be making money.
When working with your dispatcher, 3PL provider, or load tender be sure to maintain constant communication. On time and safe pickups and deliveries mean repeat business. Things happen though. When things happen, timely solutions need to be made. Great communication between you and your contact is of the upmost importance to guarantee a smoother transaction.
We want you to get the most out of this busy season, and we’re always looking to add great carriers to our network. Let’s rock this summer together!
